Call of the Curlew

Call of the Curlew

  • Where was the image taken?
    Lapland, Sweden.
  • Story of the image

While photographing from my vehicle one afternoon, at some fields where the snow was begining to melt, I was watching some Curlews. Gradually they came closer towards me looking for grain. I was focused on this bird when it was disturbed by another landing very close to it. The Curlew was not happy at being disturbed, and luckily for me it looked straight at me as it took off and called out to make its feelings felt.

I live in the UK, but I am an avid explorer and get out in my campervan along roads less travelled, aiming to photograph the wildlife I encounter amidst some of Nature's most environmentally significant and diverse places. From photographing Puffins on a remote, snowy island hundreds of miles above the arctic circle, to photographing Dalmatian Pelicans in one of Europe's premier wetlands, I aim to capture unique and captivating images that inform and inspire.
