Twist of fate

Twist of fate

  • Where was the image taken?
    Northern Spain
  • Story of the image

A griffon vulture shakes off the water that soaked its head after approaching a pond created by spring rains in Castilla y León to bathe and drink. Although it is not an easy behaviour to observe in these birds of prey, it is somewhat common for vultures to come to drink and bathe in natural pools or drinking troughs created for livestock. There they gather for a few days and all together they dive into the shallow waters to fix their plumage and then dry off in the sun with their wings ajar.
