Alone, Reclusive in a White World

Alone, Reclusive in a White World

  • Where was the image taken?
    Lake Illawarra, Wollongong, Australia
  • Story of the image

While photographing my lifer Variegated Fairywren, I noticed this egret feeding in the shallows of the lake. I used the overcast day to create a high-key image, while still ensuring the exposure was sufficently low to keep the details in the bird. I shot at a relatively high angle to preserve the reflection of the bird, ensuring the otherwise distracting background was not present.
