  This nest was built by birds at a boat pier near my house; if you sat on the pier and stretched out your hand, you could touch the edge of the nest. The birds were so accustomed to people that they did not pay any attention to them. There were many eggs in the clutch and chicks hatched from all of them. The coot parents barely covered the entire brood with their bodies. Each of the chicks demanded attention from their parents - like this chick, tried to pull the parent’s feathers.
